Well, I am not a forester, but I have studied the pictures and determined that the tree is now occupied by the Borrowers. They have moved from under the floorboards into the tree, in a back-to-nature movement. Armed with tiny chainsaws, drills, picks, axes, they are eking out a living – pioneers, hippies, hardcore Borrowers of the 21st century.
I am sure Mary Norton would agree.
