Prompted
Shawna Lemay, whose gorgeous Calm Things blog has enlivened every Monday, has a new thing she calls Transactions with Beauty. Not surprisingly to anyone who follows Shawna’s work, it gathers and spins images and text in ways that kindle and provoke and prompt.
This morning Shawna invited her readers to borrow from Joe Brainard and list words which then prompt one-liners.
I accepted her invitation and plucked a few words from my mind flurry. Then I pocketed my list and a pen, grabbed my camera, and walked the dog.
REGRET
I may regret some things, but dancing isn’t one of them.
GROWTH
All growth culminates in death.
RISK
Not everything is worth the risk.
RESPONSIBILITY
Response-ability isn’t happening if you think you already know what I think. (HT Donna Haraway, When Species Meet)
DETERMINATION
The river is determined to transform into an ocean.
MISUSED
To be alive is to risk being misused, but a tree grows anyway.
QUESTION
If a tree falls in the forest, does the one that catches it make a sound?
POSSIBILITY
A flower gives its all to seed tomorrow.
TRUTH
Everything changes.

I’ll never think of the “if a tree falls in the forest…” quote quite the same way again. Lovely, this, all of it.
