The word combistory riffs off Einstein’s notion of combinatory play, which I learned about in Nicole Breit’s “Spark Your Story” video course. As Nicole explained it, the idea is to take two unrelated things, bump them together, smush them around, stand back and see what happens. Play with that.
Often the answer is magic.
Typically my combistories combine one sentence each from five unrelated articles I’ve read online in the previous week. Each provokes thought, inspires, or asks a compelling question. Inviting you to read the articles is the point of this word play.
Other times a combistory might be a found poem.
My intention is to make them a consistent weekend feature of commatology.
